As part of a £37.5m redevelopment of the Morriston Hospital complex, a new state-of-the-art and fully accessible facility has been built bringing much needed healthcare improvements for the local population.
For the building to be “fully accessible” to all types of patients a series of approved document M compliant handrails were required throughout the building, to support patients and visitors, guiding them safely through the hospital. With the hospital being a busy place, with high volumes of moveable trolleys, gurneys and wheelchairs, wall damage was a significant concern for the trust.
Tackling both issues head on, the trust turned to CS for the solution. CS’ bespoke HRBW-50N Combined Hand/Crash Rails were chosen, offering pedestrian support throughout the hospital as well as heavy duty protection for the walls.
For busier areas within the hospital that were likely to experience low level damage as well, CS supplied SCR-50 crashrails to deflect low level impact from the wall surface.
To complete the wall protection package CS supplied a collection of SM-20 corner guards providing essential protection for vulnerable wall corners, TP-200 rub rails to protect walls from the backs of chairs, and Acrovyn Sheet applied to doors to protect from impact damage.
The complete wall protection package supplied by CS allows the trust to focus on quality of care rather than regular, costly building maintenance and repair.
